Primrose posy

Do you ever suffer from the old ''don't know what to paint - I'm out of ideas " syndrome? It happens to me all the time. Often I trawl through hundreds of photos looking for inspiration and draw a complete blank (hey what about drawing a complete blank? LOL) but just sometimes I find a long-forgotten photo that suddenly taps me on the head and says 'pick me, pick me!'. So it was with this image of some primroses that I picked about 3 Springs ago. I put them in a vintage ink bottle and enjoyed them on the window sill for a few days - now they're preserved for posterity in this acrylic painting.

6x6" on gessoed board.

This framed painting is now available to buy from ArtGalleryUK. Please click here to view.

I love primroses and the ink bottle idea was sheer brilliance.

I love the 'gritty' feel that you have obtained Gillian. There is a sense of 'humility' about this subject that is very appealing.
Don't worry about artist's block, we all get it. I find that working in themes really helps.
Tropical hugs, Richard.

Hi,Gillian,
The painting is so lovely. Your situation is not easy. But it may tell you "Take a rest well" at that time. Regarding myself, basically, a "live model" user has sometimes too many ideas at once. So, I write down inspirations and put them on a wall. They are much like birds and I soon forget.
When "idea draught time" comes or rainy days do not allow me to go outside, I look up the paper and work on it. I hope this helps you some. Take it easy.
Kind regards,Sadami

I think this is beautiful, Gillian! The softness of the flowers, that gorgeous background, and wonderfully shaped ink bottle. Sigh...perfection!

I keep a note/sketchbook where I note ideas as they come to me. When I'm without inspiration I just have to flick through. Lovely primroses, I like what you did with the background!

Yes, I sit down to draw something so I can practice and get better but what? I look around and no, I don't want to draw the spray bottle again or my pencil cup or....
Someday I'd like to make a pretty painting for my wall but I just can't figure out what I'd like to have on it or how big or anything so I stick to my journals so far.

Your painting is so soft and pretty. I'm glad you finally painted it!
