Elan Summer

Another acrylic painting, this time its my interpretation of a view across one of the higher Elan Valley reservoir lakes. My eye was drawn towards this distant scene of a zigzag lane leading to a large barn. The way it sits amongst rolling hills, themselves dwarfed by the higher peaks, made for a very satisfying visual memory.

I used lots of colour layering with dry brushwork, glazing and scumbling to get the texture I wanted. So easily and quickly done with acrylics - it would have taken days with oils.

A4 size, acrylics on gessoed board.

Still having problems with Blogger. My Followers thumbnails disappear at random, I'm finding more blogs that are difficult to comment on without jumping through hoops, and just hitting publish can take at least two tries. Sigh ......

Attention - Richard of Artkleko's Weblog. Apologies Richard - but I haven't been able to access your blog for some days now - I just get a Windows Explorer message whenever I try. Maybe its just my PC, heaven knows I've had so many problems lately. Would someone else maybe let me know if they have the same problem - you can find it on my Blogroll to the right. Sorry!

What a wow! piece, Gillian! I am just amazed at the different styles you achieve depending on your medium. This is really gorgeous and I love it...alot!

Sometimes I've noticed my followers disappear, but they're usually back the next day (or time I open the blog). Sometimes I get a message when I click on the "comments" link. I just hit the back arrow and then click again on "comments." Usually goes through the second time.

Gillian, thanks so much for visiting my blog and your nice comment. Have had a interesting tour of your recent paintings and "musings". The composition and pathway lead in to this painting is so inviting, not to mention the texture you've created with your painting technique. Well done!

Dear Gillian,
Your work is very charming. Thank you for sharing how you made it. This work could be a picture book illustration. BTW, Blogger often give us, users pains and headache. You're not alone. I really hope you and your friends site comes back to normal ASAP.
Kind regards,Sadami

I'm no artist, as you know, but I love the bright shapes and the colour blends - reminds me of art deco influences. Very pretty! :)

Another terrific painting! I really like this style.

My problem with blogger comes when I upload pictures. I have to choose the first picture twice as it always skips the first picture I choose to upload. Every time!
